Our Story
EcoZap was born from a deeply personal experience with the threat of vector-bornediseases in Delhi. In Grade 9 when my security guard suffered a severe bout of malaria.
At the time, the significance of this disease didn’t quite hit home, but the following year, my best friend contracted dengue during our pre-board exams. Seeing him struggle during such an important period in our lives opened my eyes to the dangers of vector-borne diseases.
It became clear how vulnerable people are, especially those living in less hygienic conditions or with limited access to preventive measures. I realised that many in less fortunate circumstances were at much greater risk.
After noticing stagnant water and mosquito breeding grounds throughout the city, I knew I wanted to find a solution. When I visited my father’s warehouse, I discovered stacks of badminton rackets that were being discarded due to minor defects. That’s when the idea for EcoZap was born—to upcycle these unused rackets and create a product that can address the mosquito problem.
I began interviewing sports industry professionals to understand how to collect and repurpose old rackets. Several organisations and individuals, including badminton communities and stores, now contribute to my cause by donating unused equipment.
From this collective effort, the first EcoZap prototype was developed in July 2024.
